What A/B Testing Can’t Tell You

But here’s the catch: A/B testing only shows what people do, not why they do it. Without understanding the reasons behind behavior, you may choose a version that performs in the short term but misses long-term opportunities.

The Strength of A/B Testing

The limitation is that A/B testing does not tell you why one option works better than another. For example, a company may run an A/B test on two pricing page layouts. The test shows that Version B generates more sign-ups. Follow-up interviews, however, reveal that users still find the pricing structure unclear. That feedback helps the team refine not just the layout, but the messaging itself.
